Caretaker Commitee:Imo PDP Factions Set To Appear In Court

ANYAEHIE...Ousted Imo PD Chair
Proceedings are expected to commence tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17th, 2016 in an Orlu High court over the composition of an interim leadership for the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Chairman and Secretary of the party, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie and George Eguh, had approached a State High Court where they challenged the composition of the committee.

The High Court presided over by Justice C.A Ononeze Madu had stopped the Imo State PDP Caretaker Committee from assuming office at the State party office in Owerri pending the determination of a suit brought before it by the State Chairman and Secretary.

The Court also granted leave to the State Chairman and Secretary of the PDP to apply for judicial review in terms of the reliefs sought in the statement and grounds in support of the application.

This newspaper had reported that the Chairman (Anyaehie) and Secretary (Eguh) had in their affidavit and written address submitted that their tenure will only terminate after the State congress scheduled for March.

They challenged the competence of the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who inaugurated the Caretaker Committee, stressing that he had been removed from office from a competent jurisdiction and can therefore not act in that capacity.

They also contend that it is the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and not the National Working Committee (NWC) that can constitute a Caretaker Committee for a State chapter of the party.

Chairman of the caretaker committee, Vitalis Okafor from Anambra State, had assumed duty despite the court order. He said he is unaware of such order.
