Some doctors however alleged that their colleague was hit by a gun shot.
The injured doctor was rushed
for treatment at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri where he received
treatment.
The Imo State Police
Command has however maintained that none of their men fired a shot at the protesting
doctors but rather were trying to maintain peace when some hoodlums wanted to hijack
the protest.
The doctors in Imo
State have been entangled in face off with the State government over plans to
concession hospitals in the State. They said they are not against the policy
but laid down rules should be followed in carrying out the concession.
Speaking to
INNONEWS.COM, a practicing doctor in the State, Dr.Phillip Njemzanze said the violence
unleashed on his colleagues during the protest was deliberate in a bid to
weaken their resolve to challenge the actions of the State government against the
doctors.
This Newspaper learnt
that based on the attack on the doctors yesterday, the Nigeria Medical
Association (NMA) in the State has vowed to close down all medical facilities
in the State until the issue is resolved.
