The Imo State Government says there is no going back
on taxing both the employed and unemployed in the State.
Local tabloids claimed that each adult will be taxed the sum of N3,000.
The State Governor, Rochas Okorocha who reinforced the
directive said all traditional rulers in the State will be involved in the new taxation
policy.
Sometime last month, the Hon Commissioner of
Internal Resources and Pension Matters, Vitalis Ajumbe, had told this online
newspaper that the State is bent on taxing every taxable adult, both the
employed and unemployed the sum of N2,400.
Traditional Rulers, according to the Governor, will liaise with
Government Liaison officers in the local Governments to enforce the new taxation
policy.
The State government latest posture is coming barely
few days tit announced a N3.5 billion Special Fund to boost agriculture in the State.
Imo State has been battling with huge financial crisis
over a sharp drop in its monthly allocation from the Federation account.
Last month, it had to reverse its decision to sack
3,000 workers from the State workforce after huge pressure came from the national
leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, TUC and other
pressyre groups
