Workers In Imo Allege Demand of BVN Before Payment of Salary

Some workers of the Imo State workforce are alleging that the State Government is requesting for their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) for payment of salaries.

INNONEWS.COM as at press time was unable to ascertain the authenticity of this allegation.

Some of the workers who spoke to this online newspaper said they are still surprised why they have not been paid for the month of January.

“This is almost the end of February, yet we have not received pay for the month of January 2016” said a staff of one of the ministries who spoke on condition of anonymity.

No word has emanated from officials of the Imo State government why workers in the State have not been paid almost two months in 2016

A government source however told this newspaper that “workers will be paid at the end of the month of February. They will be paid all outstanding debts. There is shortfall in the allocation of the State.

“We were waiting for the release of the January allocation from the federation Account which was just announced by the Minister of Finance just yesterday (February 23, 2016).

It was gathered that the State government may pay two month salaries to the workers at the end of the February 2016. There was no independent confirmation of this claim as no State government official agreed to speak on the matter when contacted by this newspaper.

Workers in the State and the State government have been involved in a ding – dong affair after the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress revolted over plans by the State government to sack some workers.
