Some workers of the Imo State workforce are alleging that the State Government is requesting for their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) for payment of salaries.
INNONEWS.COM as at press time was
unable to ascertain the authenticity of this allegation.
Some of the workers who
spoke to this online newspaper said they are still surprised why they have not
been paid for the month of January.
“This
is almost the end of February, yet we have not received pay for the month of
January 2016” said a staff of one of the ministries who spoke on condition of
anonymity.
No
word has emanated from officials of the Imo State government why workers in the
State have not been paid almost two months in 2016
A
government source however told this newspaper that “workers will be paid at the
end of the month of February. They will be paid all outstanding debts. There is
shortfall in the allocation of the State.
“We
were waiting for the release of the January allocation from the federation
Account which was just announced by the Minister of Finance just yesterday
(February 23, 2016).
It
was gathered that the State government may pay two month salaries to the
workers at the end of the February 2016. There was no independent confirmation
of this claim as no State government official agreed to speak on the matter
when contacted by this newspaper.
Workers
in the State and the State government have been involved in a ding – dong affair
after the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress revolted over
plans by the State government to sack some workers.
