Imo APC Members May Loose Federal Board Appointments

Members of  Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC,  are  among some few states in the federation that may be excluded for appointment as board chairmen and members in the planned reconstituted boards and federal agencies if the crisis trailing nominations of party members from the State is not resolved

Last year, some party members in the State were said to have petitioned the national chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun lamenting that party leaders in collaboration with the State leadership of the party nominated only their family members, relatives, friends and cronies as Chairmen and members of federal boards.

A party source was quoted as saying that “: the truth is that most of our party chairmen in the States in conjunction with some state governors settled for their relatives, wives, friends and cronies. The worst side of it was that the mode of selection actually negated the goal of Mr. President who wanted men and women that he could work to move the country forward

INNONEWS.COM had reported  On December 19, 2015 that the party in Imo State is on flames over nomination of party members in the State for federal appointments (SEE STORY BELOW).

This online newspaper also reported that necessary adjustments were made on the list submitted by the state chapter of the party only for it to be subjected to another review again by a committee headed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal  which Oyegun, the national party chairman is a member.

The committee was set up to review all complains and petitions from various state chapters of the party, including Imo State.

The aggrieved party members have vowed not to allow their leaders to have their way since they were never accommodated in recent appointments made in the State by the governor.

“ We will allow ourselves to be denied these positions. We have been loyal to the party and we are not going to allow ourselves to be short- changed” one of the intending board members told this newspaper.

Federal Board Appointments: Fresh Crisis Looms In Imo APC

Two months after the Imo State Governor and leader of the All Progressive Congress APC in the State, Rochas Okorocha submitted names of 50 nominees for consideration for federal board appointments; fresh crisis is imminent in the Imo State chapter of the party as some key party members are bent on rejecting the nominations.

Some of the APC members are annoyed that Okorocha only recommended his friends and loyalists  for federal appointments ignoring some key members especially those who were part of the legacy political parties that formed the APC at the State and national levels.

INNONEWS was told that some aggrieved members of the party in the State have taken their grievances to the national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and some top members of the National Working Committee, NWC.  One of the aggrieved party members who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed that they have also  taken their complains to the presidency where their matter  is being given “fair hearing”

He said “As I speak to you, the Presidency is aware of our case. We have made a strong case for ourselves and we are hopeful that list from Imo State will be reviwed

“We cannot form a party and allow decampees from the PDP to come and take what rightfully belongs to us.This is unacceptable. We first complained to the governor on the lopsided appointments but we were simply ignored.

“This was the same scenario in the Commissioners list and names of Special Advisers which was sent to the House of Assembly for screening.

He continued "majority of them are PDP decampees.  APC is not PDP.  Also, it is really a sad development that the same set of people who held positions in the first tenure of this government are the ones recommended for federal board appointments.

"We allowed the governor to nominate his choice for ministerial appointment from the State because he is the leader of the party in the State . He went ahead and nominated his in- law and former Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Anwuka after appointing another in- law of his, Chief Uche Nwosu as Chief of Staff.

"We felt that other appointments for the federal boards will be extended to other party members but almost all those who held positions in this government in the past are the ones that were recommended for federal jobs.  Imagine, a former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly in the last term being recommend for Board appointment

This Newspaper gathered that since the list of those endorsed for federal appointments from Imo State was made known, litany of petitions from disenchanted APC members in the State has flooded the national secretariat of the APC.

A source in the APC national secretariat in Abuja later revealed last night that the level of petitions trailing the nominations from many States in the federation may have forced the presidency to shelve the appointments till sometime in 2016.
