Imo: Dead Zone For Politics (OPINION)

Imo, a state in the South Eastern part of Nigeria was known for political productiveness. It was formerly the epicenter of proactive and pragmatic politics. In the past, you can't talk about States that have senses and minds for developmental politics without mentioning Imo strongly. But unfortunately all of that has sadly become a thing of the past. The state is now a bad example for positive and selfless politics. It is a reference point for selfish, wicked and materialistic politics. Politics of opulence and selfish ostentation reign Supreme in the once haven of people oriented type of politicking. The political class are the culprits. They are the ones dragging Imo into the dirty water of retrogressive politics. No exemption, the ruling party and the opposition parties are the ones causing the state and her people these tears, pains and agonies
.

I have never seen a state where wicked politicians abound more than in Imo . no Imo top class politician now cares about the growth of the state more than he or she thinks about his or herself. When you hear him or her talk tough about the state, do not be deceived because he or she is talking about personal gain and advancement. There is less than 5percent of Imo political gladiators who think more about the growth of the state and its people than he or she thinks about his or herself, children, family and even his or her generations unborn .

While the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is busy showing the people of the state pepper, the opposition political parties do not mind. While the people are going through excruciating economic and leadership hardships , the chieftains of the opposition political parties, especially People's Democratic Party, PDP and All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, do not care. As we speak, the opposition platforms are either in comatose or embroiled in crisis and stupid intra political parties intrigues and power plays. Almost all the government owned institutions in the state are either on striking actions or protesting one anti Labour law or the other , yet the opposition political players do not care. Not even the cries, hardships , economic pains move the opposition elements in the Eastern heartland state .

They are more committed to how to outwit each other and take charge of the soul of their political parties. They are more interested in controlling the congresses of their political parties. They are more interested in single handedly determining who and which zone of the state produces the next chairman of their political parties, than the welfare, wellbeing, progress and prosperity of Imolites. Not even the non payment of salaries and allowances of the suffering civil servants, the arrears of pensions and gratuities owned the senior citizens , the striking high institutions and parastatals mean anything to the political class, especially those of them who are of the opposition inclinations. No strategies, plans to commit the ruling party to do the right things. They only get busy in the state when they have internal political party programs , but do not gather to discuss the state of the state or the welfare of the people. They only return to the state for the burial ceremonies of their relations and friends of their friends. I don't know how the opposition parties want to win back the state when they are dormant, docile and do not want to take advantages of the mistakes and disadvantages of the ruling party . Maybe they are waiting for 2019 to come.

The ruling APC is having a field day in the state. not even a press release which can cause the PDP and APGA members little or nothing has come from them . Maybe they are afraid of the Governor Rochas Okorocha led government in the state or what? . They only stay in their mansions in Abuja, Lagos and abroad to talk how they will oust the APC government in the state in 2019. By next electioneering period, they will turn to emergency philanthropists. They will start attending functions, no matter the class of people celebrating or and mourning. They will start engaging the youths, sponsoring youths seminars and engaging social media soldiers. They will promise heaven on earth to the younger generation and surprise you with personal visits, cell phone calls and gifts all in the bid to get you indoctrinated into their political projects. As we speak, Imo is dead, politically. It is an abandoned area. It is desolate. It is defeated, politically.it is currently lying fallow . it is a one man state. A one political party state. It is like a burial ground. Nobody to stand in for the crying masses . no strong voice for the gravely punctured masses. The electioneering period will soon come and we will have the beehive of political activities as usual but as for now Imo is politically dead and an abandoned area.
