Okorocha was reported to
have told the Joint Imo Action Group (JAG) that in a couple of days his
Administration will put a place the machinery to probe the former Governor. He was quoted by a local tabloid in Owerri that
a panel he constituted to look into the financial activities has just submitted
its report, stating that soon his Administration will take a position on the
issue.
The JAC is a group
made up of traders, mechanics, artisans in Imo State has.
Last week, it issued a communique saying it is
dissatisfied with the State Government’s delay in arresting and probing Chief
Ohakim over his parading of wealth stolen from public treasury
The group made up of
artisans, traders, mechanics, in the communique frowned at the delay of
Governor Rochas Okorocha in seeking for the arrest and probing of Chief Ohakim
and his PDP co travellers over senseless looting of public fund ‘even when we
have paid so dearly on our part, in the course of chasing away that government
of moth and pest’
Part of the communiqué
jointly signed by Mrs. E.C Ogbonna, state secretary of the group,
representatives of Drivers and mechanics association in Imo State, alleged that
Ex Governor Ohakim siphoned huge public funds through white elephant projects
such as oak refineries, Imo Wonder lake resort, Nworie dredging puzzle,
diversion of part of the N18.5 billion naira bond for unexplainable projects linked
to Millennium Development projects, three classroom blocks that cost N50
million naira each.
‘We hereby give the Imo
State Government a twenty one day ultimatum to arrest and probe former Governor
Ikedi Ohakim and ensure that every penny fleeced of the public is returned
without further delay. If at the end of
our ultimatum and our call is not heeded to, we shall go on indefinite strike
and paralyse the system’ the group warned
However, there are reports that the JAC is sponsored by the State Government and its campaign against Ohakim is perceived as a public relations stunt to create the required platform for the State Government to move against the ex governor.
