Merger Unites Okorocha, Agbaso

Martin Agbaso(l) and Rochas

Indications emerged at the weekend that the political feud between Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State and Chief Martin Agbaso may have ended.

Local tabloids in Owerri had severally speculated that Rochas and Martin have been having political differences in recent times.

Martin is the older brother of Okorocha’s number 2 and deputy Governor of Imo State, Sir Jude Agbaso.

He is also the leader of  APGA in Imo State, having vied and lost in questionable circumstances the 2011 Imo State governorship election to the PDP.

During the 2011 eelctions, Agbaso  was said to have struck a political deal with Okorocha which led to the selection of his younger sibling as Deputy Governor.  The deal, according to informed sources states that Rochas will allow the older Agbaso to pick the APGA governorship ticket in 2015, while Okorocha runs for the office of the President.

The present political circumstances in the country which prompted Okorocha to join the proponents of the merger of opposition parties in Nigeria which gave birth to the APC might have altered these political calculations

Signs that  the perceived cracks in the relationship of the duo might have been healed emanated when  Agbaso was nominated a member  of the logo and Constitution formulation committees of the newly formed APC.

He was said to have been recommended by the Imo State Governor alongside the member representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Ezenwa Onyewuchi and former Minister of Education, Prof  Fabian Osuji
