Imo ALGON Petitions Police Over SOLADS

The embattled Local Government Chairmen in Imo State have petitioned the Imo State Police Commissioner, lamenting the forceful take- over of the 27 local Governments
Councils in the State by the newly appointed Sole Admintsrtors.

The Imo State Government had appointed 27 Sole Administrators for the LGAs in the State, a move which attracted the ire of the elected council chairmen who were unconstitutionally sacked by Governor Rochas Okorocha via radio and tv broadcast on June 11, 2011.

The Chairmen alleged that the appointments of the SOLADS by the governor is against the ruling of the Federal Court of Appeal which declared that elected chairmen are yet to serve out their tenure in office and remain the legitimate chairmen of the councils .
But Okorocha in a defiance mood, appointed the SOLADS which prompted renewed hostilities between the sacked council chairmen and the SOLADS.
There were reports of physical altercations between the SOLADS and the council chairmen in the LGAs across the State which prompted the intervention of the Imo State Police Command.
Some ALGON members told this blog that the Police had offered to mediate in the face off with the intention of resolving the feud peacefully.
There was no independent confirmation of this development
