Nominees of the State Governors
will dominate 50% of the State Executives of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
This will be the sharing formula
of party positions in APC controlled States.
It was unclear what the position will be in non APC controlled States.
The APC is a new political party
seeking registration from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It is made up of three political parties the ANPP, CPC and the ACN.
The sharing ratio implies that
the party the Governor originates from will produce the State party Chairman
and fill up 50% slots of the State Executive. The remaining 50% will be shared
by other parties.
This is the position of the
proponents of the merger, despite reports that sharing of positions remains
deadlocked among key leaders of the APC.
A national daily reported that
the matter has been suspended temporarily after party leaders failed to agree
on modalities of sharing interim party offices.
