Rochas Moves To Sanitize Imo APC; To Weed Out Undesirable Politicians, Cabinet Reshuffle Looms

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Congress will soon undergo sanitization in a move a source in the party described as “Operation Weed Out Undesirable Elements” in Imo APC.

This blog was informed that the gale of defection which rocked the party in recent weeks may have forced the leader of the party in the State and Governor, Rochas Okorocha to sanitize the party by weeding out those not in sync with his philosophy of running the party.

The Ward and Local Government congress had left in its trail rumbles within the party as many queried the unilateral decision of the Governor to impose his allies and surrogates in the Local Government chapters of the party.

The climax of the crisis was the removal of Marshal Okaforanyanwu, the interim State chairman of the party, who was sacked by the Governor.

Anyanwu had lashed back at the Governor, describing as an ingrate who  considered his enormous financial contribution to uplift APC in the State only to be shown the exit door.

Some top government functionaries such as the Secretary to the State Government, Prof
Anthony Anwukah, Commissioner for Industry and Non Formal sector, Ugochi Nnanna Okoro had cried foul over the imposition of persons not loyal to their political aspirations in their wards and local Governments.

Most of Okorocha’s appointees who are nursing political aspiration such as Uche Onyegaocha, who is eying Imo East Senatorial seat, were disgusted with their boss for ignoring their nominees for positions in their wards and  local Governments, an act they consider as detrimental to their ambitions.

Onyeagocha and Osita Izunaso, another Rochas political ally were reported to have walked out against the Governor during one of numerous APC stakeholders meetings held in Government House, Owerri.

It was learnt that some of Okorocha’s appointees, especially those who opposed the governor’s action may be shown the exit door of the government. A source said the measure will come in the form of cabinet reshuffle which is expected to come up soon.

Okorocha was quoted by a local tabloid that he will soon drop some of his appointees in a cabinet reshuffle, which is direct opposite to what he allegedly told them early in the year that they can stay in their offices or positions and contest for elective positions.

Imo APC has witnessed the large number of decampees. Thos who left the party  for the opposition PDP include: Former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa, Chief Mike Ahamba(SAN), Former Mayor of Owerri Zone, Chief Gibson Njemanze (Oyiga), Chief Felix Idiga, Chief Okey Dike, Hon Ezenwa Onyewuchi, member representing Owerri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,  Interim APC State Chairman, Marshal Okaforanyawu, etc.
