INNONEWS Vindicated, As APC Chieftain Confessess How Imo Governor, Others Connived To Deny South East Party National Chair.

Before the national convention of the All Progressive Congress, APC, This Blog reported that Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in collaboration with some party members in the South East connived with other anti Igbo forces to deny Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu the chairmanship position of the party.

An Online report credited to a member of the party in Imo State  and a delegate to the ongoing national conference (names withheld) confessed that indeed  most party members in the region were cajoled to deny Dr. Onu the national chairmanship of the party.

The party chieftain was quoted as saying   “We are happy that  the South East did not get the Chairmanship position. It was a good thing the Chairmanship and other powerful positions didn’t come to the region as that would have precluded Igbos from contesting the more important positions of Presidency and Vice. Those regions that got the big positions should not expect to be serious contenders for the elective positions”

It will be recalled that This Blog had revealed that  Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and some party leaders aligned with the South South, thus dumping the quest of the South East, especially the aspiration of Ogbonnaya Onu to be the national chairman of the APC.

The Imo State Government, however, put up a feeble defenec by denying the allegations when Okorocha’s Media aide, Sam Onwuemedo, issued a press statement denying the involvement of the Governor in denying Dr. Onu the much exalted APC national chair position.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the South East has lost out in the quest to have either the presidential or vice presidential tickets of the party.

Its chances dimmed shortly after the national convention of the party as the North seem to have settled for the Presidential ticket as indications also became clearer at the weekend that former Lagos State Governor and one of the leaders of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is set to clinch the VP ticket.
Though sources said some leaders of the party are averse to a muslim/muslim ticket, Tinubu is likely to concede the ticket to a Yoruba Christian.

This  leaves the South East in the dark as this scenario will further increase the unacceptability of the party in the region dominated by the ruling PDP. The South East presently occupies back- warming positions in the APC  and this goes a long way to jeopardize its electoral chances in the region.
