The aspiration of frontline PDP
House of Reps aspirant and former Mayor of Owerri Zone, Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze (Oyiga) received a major boost, friday, when members of Owerri Peoples Front, OPF backed his aspiration.
The group made up of members drawn
from the nine local Government areas in Owerri Zone said they are on a visit to
the former Mayor for his contribution and dedication to the cause
of the people of Owerri Federal constituency in particular and Owerri Zone at large
Chukwuemeka added that the group is
agitating for the actualization of an Imo Governor of Owerri zone extraction
and it has not minced words in going about its campaign. He however expressed fears over the increasing
and rising number of aspirants from Owerri Zone eying the governorship seat at
the same time which he said could be detrimental to the cause of the people.
He said the group is in dire need of
support and encouragement, urging Oyiga to come to their rescue and support
their cause.
In his speech, Chief Njemanze said
he has offered himself to represent the people of Owerri Federal Constituency
because there is need for effective representation for the people. He said he
has prepared himself for the task ahead, stating that his representation will
make a difference in the constituency if elected into the green chambers.
He solicited for the support of the
group urging them not to relent or be discouraged, describing their mission as a noble one.
The former Vice Chairman, Owerri
Zone PDP backed the mission and vision of the group saying Owerri Zone must put
its act together if it intends to actualize its aspiration of producing the
next governor of Imo State.
He said his return to the PDP is
geared towards aiding the development of the party in the constituency,
stressing that party members ought to be carried along in the party’s scheme of
things. He expressed regret that party members have been neglected in the past,
an anomaly he said he will strive to rectify.
Oyiga advised his colleagues not to see
politics as a do – or die affair, but rather as a game where those who earn the
confidence of the people get their votes to represent them at nay level of governance.
He assured OPF of their continued
support because the group is made up of men and women of strong character and
proven integrity who have the capacity to realize the collective aspiration of
the people of Owerri Zone.
In a vote of thanks, a leader in the
group, Chief Innocent Nwadavid said Oyiga deserves support for his aspiration
having paid his dues in politics and considering his track record and political
antecedents, stating that OPF will not relent in supporting his cause.
