Political leaders in Orlu Zone are in tiki- taka politics with their
counterparts from Owerri Zone over the Imo governorship contest in 2015.
Tiki- Taka is
a unique special football brand of play adopted by Spain which enabled them
conquer the world and Europe at major soccer competitions. It is more or less a
passing game that puts opponents in disarray despite their focus on the game. And this appears the strategy of the
two zones as they opened discussions over the Imo Governorship contest in 2015
Last Friday, This Blog reported that
stakeholders in Owerri zone including such as Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, governorship
aspirants such as Rt Hon Bethel Amadi,
Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, Prof Jude Njoku, Barr. Ken Njemanze (SAN), Chief Charlie
Onyeagbako, Chief Bethel Nzimako, Chief Gibson Achonwa Njemanze,(Oyiga),
Senator Bright Nwanne went to the
country home of former Governor of Imo State, Chief Achike Udenwa for a
political parley.
The message from Owerri Zone leaders
was the need for Orlu to step aside from the governorship contest in 2015 by
prevailing on one of its own, Senator Hope Uzodinma to leave the contest.
The former Governor was reminded that he was a
product of zoning especially in the PDP.
They anchored their message on the
basis that it was an Owerri Zone son, Chief Humphrey Anumudu that won the PDP
guber primaries in 1999 but was told to relquinsh it to Orlu Zone in line with
the Imo charter of equity. Which Chief Udenwa benefited.
Since then, they contend that Orlu has occupied the Imo governorship seat
twice and a period spanning over 13 years and will be extended if an Orlu son,
the incumbent Governor Rochas seeks for a second term and wins in the 2015
guber polls.
Former Governor Udenwa was said to
have expressed sympathy to the cause of Owerri zone, but was not definite if
political leaders of Orlu Zone will prevail on governorship aspirants
especially Senator Hope Uzodinma not to contest.
He advised them to put their house
in order and fight towards a common cause, a statement interpreted to signify a
clarion call on Owerri Zone to reduce the number of governorship aspirants from
the area which has risen to more than twenty.
Udenwa said while it is important
the Imo Charter of Equity is adhered to, it is not out of place if anyone from
Orlu Zone aspires for the office since the Constitution guarantees right to
anyone to aspire for elective office.
The well attended meeting was the
first major political meeting between leaders of the two largest political
zones in the State and it was across party lines.
Our Reporter observed that there was
no concrete agreement or arrangement that bound the two political entities on a
common line of purpose, an indication that it was a mere talk show that failed
to achieve any significant political purpose.
Political Pundits described the
meeting as an exhibition of political tiki- taka on the part of the leaders of
the two zones as any governorship aspirant from Orlu Zone in the PDP may take
the upper hand if Owerri Zone fails to reduce the number of governorship
aspirants on the party’s platform.
