Indications emerged
yesterday that some top politicians mainly of the Peoples Democratic Party in
the South East fingered in collecting various sums of money from the former
National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki, may be forced to refund the
loot.
A national daily, THE
NATION, reported yesterday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
has reportedly ordered who collected various sums of money from Dasuki to
either refund or face the risk of going
to jail.
A chieftain of the All
Progressive Congress (APC) and former military administrator of Kaduna State,
Col Jafaru Isa was said to have refunded the anti graft agency the sum of N100 million naria, an amount said to be 60%
of the monies he received from the $2.1 billion dollars arms procurement fund.
Among top Igbo
politicians mentioned in collecting various sums of monies from Dasuki include
former Governor of Old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo and PDP National
Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh who has been in EFCC detention for over a
week.
Some online news outlets reported yesterday that the Director General of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) George Mbah, another Igbo was quizzed by the EFCC for N15 billion naria fraud.
However, only Nwobodo and Metuh are the
two high profile politicians from the South East accused of receiving money from the former
National Security Adviser.
Top politicians in the
South West namely former Finance Minister and Secretary to the Government of
the Federation (SGF), Chief Olu Falae and Chief Rasheed Ladoja were also
accused of receiving N100 million naria each from the embattled former National
Security Adviser.
Nwobodo was said to have collected
the sum of N500 million naira from Dasuki.
The ex governor said
the funds were not for his personal use but to mobilize the PDP in the South
East for the re- election bid of former President Good-luck Jonathan .
The former Minister of
Youth and Sports has since defected from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress,
APC.
Metuh has denied
collecting N1.4 billion naira from the former NSA but held on grounds that he
received N400 million naira through a company he has substantial interest.
He has proceeded to a
Federal High Court in Abuja to order the anti graft agency to order his release
from EFCC.
INNONEWS.COM reported
last week that the PDP spokesman has began a hunger strike refusing to eat in
detention for fear of food poison.
A statement released by his family said “Our biggest concern for now is the health and safety of our son, who even before his arrest had alerted the nation about various threats to his life, a stance that is not unconnected to his position as the spokesperson of the opposition.
“Our position is more so as he has refused to
eat following fears of intentions to poison him in detention” the family
stated.
The PDP spokesman family
denied that he collected N1.4 billion from the office of the National Security
Adviser.
The statement said the PDP spokesman
acknowledged he delivered on an assignment for former President Goodluck
Jonathan, and was duly paid.
