Imo PDP Factions In fresh War Of Words

Pro Ihedioha Group looks good to win Congress.

BY GRACE IGWEANYI

The two contending factions in Imo PDP- the Caretaker Committee and the embattled State executives have resorted to war of words lately as Congress draws near.

The Executives led by the State Chairman, Nnamdi Anayehie says the Vitalis Okafor led Caretaker Committee erred in dissolving the party executives at the ward and the local governments.

He insisted that his faction was approved to remain in office till May 2016 by relevant organs of the PDP at the national level such as the National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee of the Party.

He described the Caretaker Committee are advocates of discord in the party.

In a swift reaction, members of the Caretaker Committee insist that the executives stand dissolved. It had announced the sack of the ward and local government executives to pave way for Congress.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Okafor, who heads the Caretaker Committee, though is a PDP card carrying member from Anambra State, said the party will embark on a sensitization tour to all the local governments in the State.

He assured that there will be a level playing field for all contestants for various elective party positions.

However, the division in the party has continued unabated with party loyalists in the camp of  Emeka
Ihedioha looking good to win both the ward and LGA congress.

Investigations reveal that the PDP which has been polarized into several camps loyal to top political heavyweights are agitated over the rampaging moves of party members said to be loyal to the former Deputy Speaker.

"His loyalists are scattered across the State and most of them know that he is the pillar behind the new Caretaker Committee. They have formed several groups and harmonized the positions they want to contest at the congress.

"From all indications, Ihedioha's followers across the State look good to overun other contenders from the camp of Senator Hope Uzodinma who are also interested in occupying positions at the wards and the LGA" a pro Ihedioha party follower told INNONEWS.COM

However, there are strong indications that the PDP in Imo State may head to harmonization of party offices after the congress.

Chief Umunnakwe Okorie,  a card carrying member of the party said there is no way there would not be harmonization  of party offices if the PDP will survive the aftermath of the congress.

He said " The Ihedioha group will capture most of the local governments in Owerri Zone, partly in Okigwe but I do not see that group making a headway in Orlu Zone where Senator Hope Uzodinma holds sway"

At a meeting of PDP members in Owerri Municipal, they expressed optimism that the Congress will be free and fair devoid of manipulation and imposition.
