Despite the coming on board of a new Interim Management Committee to manage the troublesome Imo Transport Company (ITC), some staffers are alleging that their salaries have been reduced.
A worker who earned N44, 000 claimed she received half of her salary recently despite being owed some arrears.
However, a top official of the company denied the claims. Prodded to speak further on the matter, he declined directing our inquiries to the management committee members. They were not available for comments as at press time.
Aside reduction in salaries, some franchise bus owners are said not to have received a dime from the management of the transport company since the new management company came on board.
The Imo Transport firm runs an open system where individuals bring in buses and are given franchise of the firm to operate based on an agreement that entails sharing of proceeds between the company and the bus owners
The new management committee is said to be grappling with “left over” issues since one Emeka Duru whose company, Ginikana was sacked by the State government for poorly running the affairs of ITC.
Ginikana managed the affairs of the transport company for over three years and had a running battle with the workers before his sack by the State government.
The consultancy firm was indulged in several altercations with not only the workers but with franchise bus owners which most times resulted in protests and demonstrations.
