A South East governor of the PDP extraction is on his way to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC,this Online Newspaper can authoritatively reveal.
The Governor has been fraternizing with the APC top shots in the country and is said to be on the verge of concluding talks with the APC leadership before formally announcing his defection.
A source in the know of the undercurrents shaping the governor’s move from the PDP to the APC told INNONEWS.COM that “the talks have reached a serious stage.
The source said "what is left is for the governor to conclude consultations with key stakeholders in his State and in the country.Except there is a sudden development, the governor is set to leave the PDP.
But another close source to the South East governor however told this online newspaper that the governor “may not necessarily leave the PDP for now but maintain a positive disposition towards other political leaders both in the APC and in the PDP”
However, if the South East governor eventually crosses over to the APC from the PDP, it will bring the number of governors in the region on the APC platform to two.
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is the only APC governor in the South East region. Other top Igbo politicians in the party include Minister of Science and Technology and former Abia State governor, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, etc
The APC has suffered low political acceptance in the South East since most of its key leaders are in the opposition, PDP. The region gave the APC the least number of votes during the 2015 general elections while the PDP secured large chunk of the votes in the area.
The APC leadership in the region is believed to be deeply concerned over this development and has made frantic moves to shore up the presence of the party in the South East.
The APC has no Senator from the South East and only two members from the region are in the House of Representatives.
