The Imo State Chapter of the Action Congress
of Nigeria (ACN), Thursday announced its readiness to take part in the April
27, 2013 Local Government elections.
The Polls aimed at electing Local
Government Chairmen and Councillors in the State will be conducted by the
State controlled Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC)
Imo ACN Chairman, Chief Charles Uba was
reported by an Owerri based local tabloid that
|
his party after studying the election time table released by Imo
State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) observed that the last date
stipulated by ISIEC for the submission of candidates for the election was not
proper, adding that there should not be any definite date for submission of
party candidates for the election, adding that such has not been done in the
state before. Chief Charles Uba, however wondered if ISIEC is serious with
the conduct of the April 27 LG election, in Imo State, pointing out that the
conduct of the election will depend on the preparation of the State
Government through ISIEC to conduct a free and fair election.
The former Lawmaker recalled that the Imo State Governor, Owelle
Rochas Okorocha is a product of free and fair election, noting that Imolites
will expect him to conduct a free and fair election that will be devoid of
rigging, maintaining that Imo people will resist any attempt by the ruling
party in the state (APGA) to rig the LG election in their favour.
While stressing that his party still believe the governor, Owelle
Rochas Okorocha to conduct a free and fair election come April 27, Imo LG
election, Chief Charles Uba, therefore called on all Imolites, especially
those wishing to contest the forth-coming LG election in the state to join
ACN, as according to him, it is the only party that has not discredited
itself and has the platform that will give the State good governance at all
levels in the state.
