Presidency Invites Imo PDP Stakeholders To Abuja

Reports filtered in Owerri, Imo State capital that President Goodluck Jonathan has invited PDP stakeholders from Imo State. The reason for the meeting was not stated but a source said it will hold at the presidential villa on Tuesday, January 31st,  2013
Those invited include senators and members of the House of Representatives of the PDP extraction from the State and other party stakeholders.
A local tabloid in Owerri claimed that the meeting will address among other issues the ongoing face off between members of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria and the APGA controlled government (ALGON) who were sacked from office by Governor Rochas Okorocha on June 11, 2012.
There was no independent confirmation of the meeting as a top PDP official in Imo State failed to respond to inquiries by this blog.
Imo State is dominated by the PDP having majority of its members in the Senate and the House of Representatives in Abuja.
The State House of Assembly is also strongly made up of the PDP. Its members would have been in the majority if not for the defection of the Assembly’s principal officers which decamped to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The party lost the governorship election to APGA when Rochas Okorocha floored Ikedi Ohakim, the then governor of the State who was the party's candidate in the governorship elections held in April 2011.  The party also gave President Jonathan the highest number of votes in the South East during the presidential elections which cruised the president to office.
