Contrary
to reports by some Owerri based newspapers that former Governor of Imo State,
Dr. Ikedi Ohakim was invited by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC), the ex governor was quoted by an Owerri local tabloid that he was never invited by the anti graft
commission.
According
to the tabloid, Ohakim who spoke through his media aide, Ethelbert Okere,
repeated for the umpteenth time that he was not invited by the commission for whatever
reason. He stated that it is funny that it was only the two local newspapers
that reported that he was arrested by the EFCC.
He threatened
to institute legal action if the two newspapers continue to report and peddle
falsehood about his person, adding that this is the third time in a year that
the two newspapers have reported falsely that he was arrested.
The former Governor wondered why when EFCC
arrested the Imo State Commissioner for finance, and Accountant General, the
story was widely reported in the social media, national dailies and local
newspapers in Imo State.
He said
he committed no offence to be invited by the EFCC, stating that whenever he is
invited he will go to the commission.
