APC: Okorocha Gets Backing From 'Oyiga'

OKOROCHA

Chief Gibson Achonwa  Njemanze (Oyiga) has backed Governor Rochas Okorocha on his move to the newly formed mega party, All Progressive Congress (APC).

Oyiga said Okorocha’s move should be supported by well meaning Igbos because the Governor’s bold and courageous step will successfully re integrate the Igbos into mainstream politics of the nation.

Speaking to newsmen in his office, the ISOPADEC Board member stated that Igbos would have lost its political identity and relevance in the nation’s scheme of things if Okorocha had not taken the bold step to take APGA to APC.

He expressed regret that Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has refused to be part of the merger that will enhance the political opportunities of Igbos as the next political dispensation draws near.

The billionaire politician stated that it is unfortunate that he (Obi) allowed primordial interest to overshadow his reasoning by declining to join the merger, adding that  he has nothing to loose politically considering the fact that he has completed his second term as governor of  Anambra State.

Hear Oyiga “What is Governor Peter Obi’s interest. What relevance does he have after completing his tenure of eight years as Governor of Anambra State? After his eight year reign as Anambra state Governor he will simply retire. So what do you expect of him when it pertains to this merger.  What stake does he have in the polity as it concerns Igbos.  It is Rochas who has a greater stake in the polity that can afford to take Igbos to the mega party, so that Igbos can be part of the process of this landmark political development”

He explained that the authentic APGA is fully involved in the merger of opposition parties in the country, stressing that the party has come of age and needs to stop being a regional party if it wants to be recognised as a serious contender in the nation’s polity.

The one – time Owerri Federal Constituency House of Reps contender in the 2011 elections, stated that it is time APGA move away from being a minority party and join the mainstream of political platforms that will be active players in shaping the political direction of the country.

He wondered how Igbos would be classified as a serious contender for any serious position in the country when it has continuously confined itself to be a regional party, stating that the advantages of the merger for Igbos outweigh its disadvantages.

Oyiga lauded the Okorocha Administration for the massive and numerous developmental projects it has carried out in the State, saying that what the governor has achieved in two years has surpassed the achievements of previous administrations in the State.

He scored Governor Okorocha high in terms of providing dividends of democracy to the people, saying that what the governor needs is the support of all and sundry to continue the good works he has embarked upon.  He said the governor deserves the support of well meaning Imolites in his determination to take Imo State to the zenith of infrastructural development.

On the activities of ISOPADEC, which he serves as Board member, Oyiga stated that the commission has achieved so much within a short period, stating that  the establishment of a Marine University at Ohaji/Egbema LGA is one among numerous landmark achievements of the commison.  He said the university will serve as an institution that will undertake building of bridges to serve as a dockyard for ships and vessels.

He explained that it will also aid in making Oguta Lake a seaway to the territorial waters of Nigeria and other countries.   He emphasized that for the first time since the creation of ISOPADEC, the commission is on the verge of getting a brand new complex as its headquarters.
