Group Faults Appointment Of Legal Practitioner As Health Commissioner In Imo

The Society for A Better Imo has faulted the appointment of a legal practitioner as commissioner for Health in Imo State.

Governor Rochas Okorocha had sworn in new Commissioners and named a legal practitioner, Barr (Mrs) Ngozi Njoku as Commissioner for Health last Thursday.

A short email statement to INNONEWS.COM and signed by the group’s president, Ferdinand Okoro, said the appointment is a case of a square peg in a round hole.

“The appointment of Mrs Njoku is a clear case of a square peg in a round hole. This is unacceptable and reinforces the impression that the state government is not truly committed to tackle various problems in the health sector in the State.

“While we do not fault Mrs. Njoku’s competence, we believe she would have done better in her chosen field of human endeavour which is the legal profession rather than exposing her to a sector which is totally ignorant and incompetent.

However, the State Governor, after eight months after his re- election as governor of the State inaugurated the State Executive Council.

Former House of Assembly member, Innocent Ekeh was announced commissioner for Community Government Council (CGC) and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Mrs Josephine Udorji was sworn in as commissioner for Works and Transport.

Others are Ifeanyi Araraume (Jnr), Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chidi Ibe (Information).
Others are Vitalis Ajumbe (Internal Resources and pension matters), while Obinna Mbata was appointed Commissioner for finance.

Mr. Udo Agoha was named Agriculture minister
