Indications
are rife that a top leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has taken over
the party structure in Imo State.
Our
investigations reveal that the cash strapped party is now funded by a top
politician (names withheld) who is believed to have a governorship ambition in
2019.
The
APC in Imo State has been financially insolvent as a result of the inability of
the leader of the party and State Governor, Rochas Okorocha to dole out funds
for the upkeep of the party.
The
politician, according to our investigations, has placed all the ward officers
of the party on his pay roll with the promise to extend it to the 27 local government
executives in the state in the future.
This
newspaper was informed last week that the governorship hopeful resolved to do
pay the party officers after they took their pleas to him complaining over lack
of funds that has stifled activities in the party.
The
top politician who decamped from the PDP to the APC just before the 2015
governorship election in Imo State was said to have expressed dismay over the pathetic
condition of the party officers and decided to take up the enormous responsibility.
The
APC in Imo State has been in financial doldrums despite having serving governor
and majority of members in the Imo State House of Assembly.
But a Party ward chairman in Owerri (Imo East Senatorial zone) who spoke on the condition of anonymity said he is not on the payroll of any politician in the APC in Imo State.
" I am not aware of your claims. I am not on the payroll of the anyone or politician" he told our INNONEWS.COM.
Efforts to speak to the Imo State Chairman of the APC, Hilary Eke was unsuccessful as several phone calls to his phone were not answered.
Another party source said the politician may only placed party officers who are in his senatorial zone on his payroll as part of his contribution to the upkeep of the party.
